Mado Hanioti (Université libre de Bruxelles)
In this talk, I will talk about two experimental studies that aimed to add to the existing literature on intergroup helping through by, firstly, examining and trying to replicate the effect of Group Status on preferences for engagement in specific types of behaviors, namely behaviors we characterize as Intergroup Giving and Intergroup Acting. Secondly, by considering how the interplay between group status and equal/unequal Intergroup Relations affect intergroup helping preferences. Thirdly, by investigating the specificity of strategic outgroup helping to counter Negative Metastereotype, depending on group status. Fourthly, by trying to replicate previous findings on Moral Emotions that are believed to predict different behavioral outcomes. Furthermore, we investigated the possible interaction between group status and strategic outgroup helping related to group image that impact intergroup helping behaviors. I will present the results of these two studies.
