Prof. Chelly Maes (Université libre de Bruxelles)
Prof. Chelly Maes (ULB, Department of Information and Communication Sciences) is an interdisciplinary communication scientist whose work focuses on the digitalization of youth development. She recently received an ERC starting grant for her project GENSCOPE, where she will explore the impact of gender narratives in digital media on adolescents’ gender beliefs and developmental outcomes. She was previously affiliated with the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of North Carolina and the Media Psychology Lab at KU Leuven, where she also completed her doctoral studies. In her talk, she will focus on the role of social media, sexting, and pornography use among adolescents and young adults in relation to body image and sexuality. More specifically, she will present insights from qualitative, data donation, longitudinal, daily diary, and experimental research.
The talk will take place in the CeSCuP’s seminar room as well as online.
